INTERNET SERVICE IN RESIDENCE

UWS Wireless Internet (Wi-Fi)

The majority of our residences have access to the University of Alberta's wireless internet service (UWS). The strength and quality of the signal can be affected by the location of the UWS access points, the number of users at any given time, as well as occasional interference by microwaves and other wireless devices, such as routers. Common areas in each residence tend to have the best access.

You can connect a computer or mobile device to UWS using your CCID/password (instructions). The connection is suitable for regular academic activities, such as email and browsing the internet. Video streaming may not be supported during peak usage.
Devices such as gaming consoles and smart TVs are not able to connect to the service.

ResNet Wireless Internet (Wi-Fi)

Many of the residences have been upgraded to a new wireless service (ResNet).

You can connect a computer or mobile device to UWS using your CCID/password.

Devices such as gaming consoles and smart TVs are able to connect to ResNet_Gamer, or the wired connection in your unit, depending on where you live.

Wired Internet

If you have devices that cannot connect to the UWS, or ResNet you have the option of a wired network connection.

Some of our residences include a wired connection; others will require you to contact and subscribe to service from a local ISP (Internet Service Provider). Select your residence below to see your options for wired internet connections.

Review the IST policy that you agree to comply with when you use the residence internet service [ HERE ].
