Orientation is a great way to get settled in!

Participating in orientation will help with your transition to university. Choose from the many different orientation opportunities available to you when you arrive on campus. These programs will give you information on navigating campus, a connection to academic and wellness resources, and being part of your new UAlberta community through making new friends.

Winter Ascent: Residence orientation program

Winter Ascent consists of residence tours and a variety of Welcome Home Hangouts to allow you to meet other residents. Come hang out, meet some new friends, enjoy some snacks and enter to win one of our door prizes! Download our Winter Ascent 2020 program calendar!

Winter Ascent: Service learning event

Join us on Saturday afternoon for an information session on Service Learning followed by a service opportunity in the city. Spots are limited.

  • Speed Friending | Friday, January 3
    Come make new friends from different communities. Learn more about their culture and all the fun stuff you have in common. Join us in East Campus Commons for free food, door prizes and a great time!
  • Peace Officers and Puppies | Saturday, January 4
    Join us from 7:00PM - 9:00PM in East Campus Commons to meet some of the campus Peace Officers and play with some puppies!
  • Pack a Snack for the First Day Back | Sunday, January 5
    Would you like to start your semester off right? Stop by the Nîpisîy Multipurpose Room on Sunday, January 5th from 7PM - 9PM and grab some snacks to start your new semester off on the right foot.
  • Chums, Chai and Chats | Monday, January 6
    Stop by East Campus Commons to drink some tea and talk about your first day of class! Hoping to make a new friend? Fill out a pen pal form and take the time to get to know someone in the community over the course of the semester!
  • Cookies and Conversations! | Tuesday, January 7
    Who doesn't like making food and friends? Come to ECC to decorate cookies and engage in conversation. Just bring yourself and some creativity. Join us in cozying up with your favourite tea, cookies, and new people. We'll bring all the cookies, tea, and decorating supplies!
  • Do-It-Yourself Mug Decorating | Wednesday, January 8
    Do you love DIY and crafting? Need a new mug? This is the event for you! Stop by the Nîpisîy Multipurpose Room and design and take home your very own mug. Perfect for all those warm drinks you'll need to keep yourself going in the winter semester.
  • Build Your Own Terrariums Night | Thursday, January 9
    Come down to East Campus Commons and build your very own terrarium. All supplies (and snacks) will be provided!
  • Board Games and Pizza | Friday, January 10
    Enjoy the end of your first week while playing some board games and enjoy some some delicious pizza. Attend the event and enter the draw to win a cool U of A merchandise. A great chance to meet other residents from around the campus!

Winter Transitions: International Student Orientation

This is a chance for you to hear about supports and services from across campus that are designed specifically for international students.

Transitions is designed to introduce you to UAlberta's dynamic academic and social life and to help you prepare for your studies.

Transitions orientation is open to all new incoming international students, undergraduate, graduate, exchange and bridging (visiting) students—both short and long-term.

Student Union orientation workshops

January 6-31, 2020
The Welcome (back) Workshop Series is brought to you by your Students' Union. It is a series of workshops given by student services across campus that aims to help you get a head start during your semester. Whether you are just arriving at UAlberta, or have been here for a semester already, there is something for you! For a full schedule, please visit their website.

Looking to get involved? Check out the Winter Clubs Fair located in the Students Union Building. Clubs from across campus will be in the Students Union Building from January 13-15.

Move-In information

You can pick up your keys and move into your unit after 12:00 pm (noon) on January 2, 2020. Be sure to bring photo ID with you and check our website for full details on where to go and what to bring. If you have any questions, email housing@ualberta.ca. Note: Housing office winter closure takes place on December 24 from 4:30 PM until January 2 at 8:30 AM.

These processes include the Code of Student Behaviour, the Resident Conduct Guide, the Residence Agreement and your community-specific House Rules.
